Client Background

GoStudent is a leading European EdTech company that provides one-on-one online tutoring across more than 30 school subjects. With a focus on improving both academic performance and learner confidence, GoStudent has become a popular choice for families across Europe. Language learning is one of its most in-demand offerings.

The Challenge

GoStudent has traditionally delivered tutoring sessions via video conferencing tools like Zoom. While this setup offers convenience, it lacks the level of engagement and contextual learning necessary for successful language acquisition. Students learning via video conferencing have little opportunity to engage in the type of real-time, immersive experiences that encourage and support spontaneous speaking, cultural cues, and practical communication.

A customer survey of more than 12,000 families found that 87% believed that virtual reality could make education more fun and effective. Language learning, with its need for real-world interaction and contextual feedback, was seen as a prime candidate for improvement through immersive technology.

The Solution

GoStudent reached out to IMMERSE because of the copious research showing our platform to be remarkably effective at improving language learning outcomes. IMMERSE partnered to transition their online language tutoring services into a more immersive learning experience, collaborating with GoStudent to tailor content and lesson plans to match students' language levels and goals.

The IMMERSE platform provided a library of contextualized learning environments, along with live instruction and practice tools. A dedicated customer support manager also supported GoStudent’s team, offering ongoing technical and strategic guidance.

Results and Impact

GoStudent conducted a multi-subject efficacy study involving 2,616 learners, including 658 language students. The results show that immersive language instruction in IMMERSE contributed to measurable improvements:

  • 74% of language learners improved their grades by up to 3 levels

  • 79% of university-level language learners reported grade improvement

  • 90% of those who improved their grades also reported increased confidence

  • Students who continued lessons for 6 months were 37% more likely to improve than those who stopped at 3 months

These outcomes underscore how immersive learning fosters not just academic progress, but also learner motivation and long-term growth.

Lessons Learned and Takeaways

For GoStudent, immersive learning solved a key challenge in online education: how to keep students engaged and build their fluency. Unlike platforms based in traditional video conferencing, IMMERSE allowed students to participate in realistic, interactive scenarios that mimic real-world conversations. By moving beyond static lessons, GoStudent empowered students to practice language in environments where speaking, listening, and cultural understanding naturally unfold.

This partnership highlights how immersive learning can dramatically elevate the quality and impact of digital language education.

IMMERSE helps organizations deliver meaningful, real-world language learning experiences on desktop, mobile, and headset.
