At AT&T México, English communication was breaking down during interactions with suppliers, customers, and colleagues in other parts of the world. Their existing e-learning provider was not solving the problem. Then AT&T partnered with IMMERSE to bring role-specific language practice directly into the workday through IMMERSE on Meta AI glasses.

See how turning real workplace interactions into study material right on the job impacted employees’ confidence and workplace communication.

Client context

AT&T México provides mobile services and business solutions across Mexico, serving more than 24.7 million customers. The company, which employs more than 13,000 people in Mexico, has an established digital learning operation that evaluates new training technologies and language solutions to support communication across its multinational workforce.

In summer 2026, AT&T México partnered with IMMERSE to pilot Meta AI glasses. The participants formed one of the first enterprise cohorts to trial AI glasses for language learning. Their roles ranged from fiber optics engineering to financial analysis. Participants were selected from employees who had previously used AT&T’s existing e-learning language provider, giving AT&T a direct point of comparison.

Language need

All AT&T employees participating in the pilot were native Spanish speakers. Their jobs required communicating in English across a range of high-stakes, real-time moments. They needed the ability to present results to leadership, coordinate with international colleagues and consultants, and work with global suppliers, customers, and engineers.

Employees identified spoken communication as a particular priority. Going into the pilot, 91% wanted to improve speaking, 82% pronunciation, and 73% vocabulary.

“The most complicated situations I’ve had are when I’ve had to discuss work-related matters with suppliers or engineers from other countries. The issue is that the accent is different in each region, and that sometimes complicates the flow of communication.”
— Alejandro Morales, Fiber Optics Transmission Engineer at AT&T México

Client challenge

AT&T's existing e-learning language provider wasn't driving strong engagement. It also lacked an AI component that could tailor lessons to each employee's role. The pilot also had to serve employees at different proficiency levels: 64% described themselves as intermediate (B1–B2), while the rest were beginners.

Prior to the pilot, 73% of employees described themselves as only somewhat confident using English in real-life situations. 100% said they were highly motivated to improve so they could use English more effectively in the workplace.

Employees identified specific situations where communication broke down most. These situations included interactions with suppliers, customers, and colleagues from offices in other parts of the world. They also included internal communication tasks such as giving presentations and explaining results for the quarter.

Solution

AT&T piloted IMMERSE's Capture feature with Meta AI glasses, turning real workplace moments, like a supplier call or a client email, into study material right on the job.

Instead of stepping away from work to complete a generic lesson, employees used Coach mode to ask questions, rehearse language, or process a conversation right after it happened. The glasses kept that support hands-free and in context. Listen mode captured real interactions and gave employees feedback on their fluency, tone, phrasing, and how well their language fit the situation.

Because Capture builds each employee's study material from their own conversations, it could adapt to their individual roles and communication needs. A fiber optics engineer's sessions could focus on technical vocabulary and role play with suppliers. A financial analyst's sessions could center on rehearsing a presentation for leadership.

“Once I had a meeting in English with my direct manager, and honestly, I was very nervous. The first thing I did was put on the glasses. I started asking the Coach how I could respond in the meeting with my manager, and that helped me a lot because it cleared up all my doubts.”
— Enrique Torres Valdés, Financial Analyst at AT&T México
Preparing for a leadership presentation with Coach

AI Coach: I see a green screen behind you. Are you doing a presentation today?

AT&T employee: Yes, I have a presentation with my vice president.

AT&T employee: Um we have six slides. For the first one, over the first half of the year, our focus was simple. Build the capabilities our business needs...

AI Coach: That's a clear explanation of your focus. You could also say, “Our main goal was to build what the business needs.” Would you like to try that?

To help employees explore Capture across different situations, IMMERSE also created a 16-task engagement campaign that encouraged them to try different ways of using the feature to develop their professional English.

Organizational impact

The clearest evidence of Capture’s impact came from employees’ day-to-day work. During the eight weeks they used the feature, employees reported improvements in reading, writing, and communicating in spoken English on the job.

100%
of employees improved ability to understand and write business emails in English
83%
of employees improved participation in virtual meetings and workplace conversations
83%
of employees improved ability to understand and write professional documents

Employees also used Capture regularly throughout the pilot. Despite the sophistication of the technology, most found both the app and AI glasses easy to use, and they all said they enjoyed using IMMERSE. That result mattered for AT&T, which had entered the pilot looking for stronger engagement than its existing e-learning provider was driving.

“Thanks to IMMERSE, I feel more confident when I need to interact with engineers, colleagues, or providers from other countries.”
— Alejandro Morales, Fiber Optics Transmission Engineer at AT&T México

Why it matters

AT&T’s pilot points to a different model for workplace language development: one where employees build English skills on the job, in the exact contexts where they need them. With Capture, workplace interactions can become part of the learning process itself. As one of the first enterprise cohorts to use AI glasses for language learning, AT&T helped test what that model looks like in practice.

For a multinational company like AT&T, clear communication across languages and borders is at the core of how the business runs. The pilot's early results suggest that in-the-moment, role-specific practice can build real workplace communication skills within weeks, without pulling employees away from the job to do it.

“I can speak, but what I find difficult is finding the right words and translating. With IMMERSE, I’ve improved, and now I can think more in English without needing to translate.”
— Rodrigo Cruz Pérez, Operations and Administration at AT&T México
